Taking your car along with your motorhome gives you total freedom on the road — no more navigating tight village streets or searching for parking in town centres. Our UK-built, braked A-Frames make it simple, safe, and legal to tow your small car behind your motorhome.
✅ Why Choose an A-Frame?
Compact and road-ready – Your car becomes a trailer with independent axles and a low centre of gravity
Safe and stable – Tracks straight, corners confidently, and won’t sway or snake
No trailer hassle – No heavy loading, no ramps, no storage stress
Better fuel economy – Towing a car is lighter than hauling a trailer
Quick setup – No wet straps or awkward alignments; just hook up and go
Our cable braked A-Frame system is a reliable, proven method that applies proportional braking from the motorhome to the towcar using a mechanical overrun system. Built here in Stoke-on-Trent from high-grade BS steel and fitted with a premium AL-KO hitch, the entire unit folds neatly into your boot — even a Smart car. It’s simple and effective.
For vehicles with more complex braking systems, we offer an electronic braked A-Frame solution. This setup integrates with your car’s electronics, offering smoother and more responsive braking performance. It’s particularly useful for newer or heavier vehicles, and our system ensures safe, compliant towing with minimal intrusion to the car’s original wiring.
At TOWtal, we’ve adapted a broad range of small and lightweight cars specifically for A-Frame towing, making it easier and safer to take a compact vehicle with you on your motorhome adventures. Popular choices include the Fiat 500 and its sportier Abarth variants like the 595 and 695, prized for their compact size and reliable handling. Citroën’s C1, C2, and C3 models are commonly converted, along with the Peugeot 107, 207, and Renault’s Twingo and Clio series. Toyota’s Aygo, Yaris, and iQ also feature frequently, offering excellent fuel economy and urban agility.
Other popular vehicles include the Suzuki Swift, Alto, Splash, and SX4, as well as Hyundai’s Getz and i10 models, and Kia’s Picanto, all of which are well-suited to towing via A-Frame due to their lightweight and manageable dimensions. The Vauxhall Corsa, Agila, and Meriva are often chosen for their combination of size and versatility, while Nissan’s Micra and Pixo are known for their reliability and ease of adaptation. Smart’s ForTwo and ForFour models, particularly manual gearbox versions, are increasingly popular for their ultra-compact footprint.
Additionally, we frequently adapt Volkswagen models such as the Polo, Up!, and Lupo, as well as platform-shared cars like the SEAT Mii and Skoda Citigo, which share similar dimensions and mechanical layouts ideal for A-Frame towing. Thanks to our extensive experience, having converted over 10,000 vehicles across more than 60 different models, we can usually accommodate a wide variety of cars and provide expert advice on the best options for your specific needs. If your vehicle isn’t on this list, just get in touch — we’re happy to assess its suitability and guide you through the process.
Note: Some cars, such as those with traditional automatic gearboxes or Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), are not suitable for A-Frame towing. Unsure if your car qualifies? Just give us a call — we’re always happy to advise.
