If your motorhome was first registered on or after April 1st, 2012, you’re legally required to use a Type Approved Towbar (Regulation 55). At TOWtal, we supply and install a wide range of EC Type Approved towbars from trusted European manufacturers — all fitted by our expert in-house team at our Stoke-on-Trent workshop.
These towbars are:
Fully compliant with EC94/20 or Regulation 55
Designed to bolt directly to pre-drilled mounting points on your motorhome chassis
Marked with the manufacturer, approval number, and certified weight limits
Supplied with all necessary approval documents for MOT compliance
They’re a fast, safe and reliable choice for most modern motorhomes.
If your motorhome doesn’t already have chassis extensions, we can fit those during the same visit. During installation, our team may also need to adjust or reposition items such as:
Water tanks
Corner steadies
Diesel heaters
Battery boxes or spare wheel mounts
Pipework, brackets, or underbody fixings
We handle all of this in-house — ensuring a neat, secure and road-safe installation from start to finish.
Type Approved Towbars are generally quicker to fit than custom builds. Manufacturers like Witter, Memo, Tow-Trust and AL-KO produce heavy-duty bars that are flexible enough to fit a wide range of vehicles. These towbars are designed specifically for motorhomes and come with full fitting guides and warranties.
While some companies offer mobile fitting, it’s not something we — or the manufacturers — recommend. As an accredited Witter e-fit agent, we complete all work at our NTTA Quality Secured workshop to ensure it’s done properly and safely.
Type Approved towbars are typically mounted directly to your motorhome’s existing chassis extensions. If your vehicle doesn’t already have these fitted, we can supply and install the appropriate extensions during your fitting appointment.
As part of the process, our team may need to relocate or adjust certain components underneath your vehicle to ensure the towbar fits securely and safely. This can include:
Water tanks
Corner steadies
Diesel heaters
Battery boxes
Spare wheel holders
Pipework, brackets or supports
All work is carried out in-house by experienced fitters, ensuring a neat, road-safe result with minimal disruption to your motorhome’s layout.
